Before and After: Family Room

When we decided to purchase our second home, the basement was framed, but unfinished. We had our agent put in an offer to include the finished basement for the asking price.  Long story short, they accepted and here we are with a 5 bedroom, 3 bath home!

where a single, exterior door used to be

The original plans showed a layout much smaller than what we ended up with.  We ended up having the builders move two exterior doors, push a wall back about 10 feet, hold off on a wet bar, and wire for surround sound speakers.

We had them add a doggie door for Rousey and Autumn

This post is where the wall was originally supposed to be.  Everything behind the post was supposed to be unfinished space.  But, can you believe that behind that wall is another 8 feet of unfinished space…. what were we supposed to do with ALL that unfinished space?!  And that doesn’t even count the furnace room with storm shelter!

The team worked so fast!  It went from nothing to done in about 2.5 weeks!

Within the past year, we have repainted every room in our home.  The color we chose is Indian River by Benjamin Moore.0ebd35d84f800e87e0dc907d6cbabaf7

It is the perfect greig….. beige + grey.

The couches, loveseat, and ottoman are the “old” but like new furniture we purchased for our first home.

As usual, I decorated with a very neutral pallet.  No surprise.

Since everything is so color neutral, I like to use mix and match textures for added dimension.  I’m sure I will eventually change out the rug and toss pillows for a quick, simple change, but for now, I am loving how big and bright the space is.  It feels so clean and comfortable.

I’m not generally a fan of carpet, but I have to admit, it does soften up the space and give the room a warmer touch.  We have plans to eventually incorporate a wet bar with a full-size refrigerator and replace the carpet on the kitchenette side with the same tile as used in the kitchen upstairs.
